Stepping out on dance career

Aspiring young dance stars of the future were preparing for life as a professional dancer at Northern Ballet’s Summer School yesterday.

The summer school, in Leeds, offers intensive dance training for 16-19 year olds under the leadership of Northern Ballet’s ballet mistress, Yoko Ichino.

Students attending the school, which ran during the first two weeks of August, attended workshops in ballet, contemporary dance, body conditioning and a drama workshop. There were also talks from dancers and a chance to observe the company’s rehearsals.

Isadora Souza, a student from Brazil, said: “It has been a great experience, with different people and teachers and new ideas to help my technique.”
