Strauss eyes an arrow success at Lord's

Cricket lovers were assured yesterday there would be no disruption to the sport when Lord's cricket ground is taken over for the London 2012 archery competition.

"There is no impact for us financially," MCC chief executive Keith Bradshaw said.

"We have an England v South Africa Test and once we have rehabilitation of the ground and turf (after the Olympics) that will be done.

"At the moment we have one Test and three one day internationals in 2012, but there are other matches that have just come out for tender which we will be bidding for such as a West Indies match.

"Having archery here at Lord's will have no impact on the schedule."

The planning application to turn the hallowed turf at Lord's, the home of cricket, in to the home of archery at the London Olympics is being submitted in May.

England cricket captain Andrew Strauss met British archers Alison Williamson and Simon Terry at the ground.

He said: "Lord's will be a first- class venue for archery at the London 2012 Olympic Games, just as it is for cricket.

"I am very excited at the prospect of watching archery in such as spectacular setting, and it will be great for the profile of Lord's to be part of such an historic event."

Williamson, who won bronze at the 2004 Olympics and

just missed out on a team medal in Beijing 2008, said: "It is a

fantastic opportunity for our sport.

"Maybe people will think that because the archery is being played at Lord's I will go to see it and the sport will get more interest.

"It could put it on people's radar."

The action will take place against the backdrop of the historic pavilion.
