Street stars past and present honoured

Stars of Coronation Street past and present are honoured with MBEs in the soap's 50th year.

Eileen Derbyshire, 78, who plays church-going Emily Bishop, joined the show in 1961 and is now its second longest-running cast member.

Barbara Knox, 76, has appeared as glamorous Rita Sullivan since 1964, while Anne Reid, 75, played Ken Barlow's wife Valerie Tatlock in the soap from 1961 to 1971 before later appearing in Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies.

Knox said she was "shocked and delighted" to receive the MBE. "Such a wonderful honour and I'm grateful to all concerned, especially Coronation Street."

Eileen Derbyshire described her honour as a thank you to her colleagues on both sides of the camera, saying she was "astounded" to be receiving the award.
