Summer chance to follow in the footsteps of ‘Railway Children’

There is something majestic about steam engines and this Easter people have been given the chance to discover the joy of riding back in time.

Over Easter, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has organised a timetable of steam trains, sent off by station staff with the shrill of a whistle, taking passengers on a nostalgic journey.

The railway was used during the filming of the 1970 version of Edith Nesbit’s classic tale The Railway Children, starring Jenny Agutter.

Visitors will have the chance to follow in the footsteps of the book’s much-loved characters, Roberta, Phyliss and Peter, this summer with a series of special services.

The famous Old Gentleman’s Saloon, which featured in the film, will be in service offering guided tours of filming locations that were used and offering complimentary cream teas.

Visitors will be welcomed on board by the railway’s own frock-coated Old Gentleman, who will provide a guide to the film.

Tours will operate on dates in June and July. The saloon is the oldest operational standard gauge passenger coach in the world and seats just 14 people.
