Student accommodation is also being upgraded with 2.65m being spent on halls of residence in Hull, and a further 1.35m in Scarborough. Rooms will be given en-suite facilities and redecorated and new furniture installed.

Another 2.5m will be spent improving teaching rooms at the Wilberforce Building, the busiest teaching building on campus.

Several laboratories in the Hardy, Cohen, Fenner and Chemistry buildings which house physics, chemistry, biology and psychology departments are also receiving major upgrades. Lecture theatres in the Robert Blackburn building, which houses departments such as engineering and computer science, will be upgraded.

The work is the latest stage of an 85m investment in facilities which has been going on for the last five years. Nine Hull-based companies are involved in the project, including Hobson and Porter Ltd, R Fallowfields Ltd and HSTU Technical Services.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor John Leach said it showed Hull's commitment to providing an excellent learning environment.
