Super League fans asked to help with assault inquiry

A POLICE appeal for information about a violent assault that left a rugby league fan in a coma is to be made to 70,000 fans today.

David Singer had gone to see Halifax play Featherstone Rovers at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington last Sunday but was attacked as he went back to a coach after the game.

The assault left the 32-year-old, from Halifax, unconscious and in a coma in hospital.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said his parents, who left the match unaware of what had happened, have remained at his bedside all week.

Police believe Halifax and Featherstone fans at the Super League grand final at Old Trafford today could include witnesses to the assault.

The spokesman said officers had identified Featherstone supporters in an area between security barriers and the stadium car park, some of whom were being aggressive towards Halifax fans.
