Supermarket ombudsman call backed

TWENTY election candidates have called for supermarkets to be more accountable in response to pressure by global justice campaigners in West Yorkshire.

Candidates were asked to sign up to a ten-point manifesto put together by a coalition of Leeds campaign groups including local Oxfam and Friends of the Earth supporters.

Twenty one of the candidates standing in and around Leeds responded, with all but one backing the call for a supermarket ombudsman. Candidates gave mixed support to other measures including a global climate change deal, a cap on local CO2 emissions, refugee rights, a Robin Hood tax, debt cancellation, arms trade controls and tax justice.
