Support group launched for boxers inspired by Olympics hero Campbell

A NEW boxing development group is being launched in Hull to help co-ordinate the huge interest in the sport that has been sparked by the Olympics success of the city-born gold medallist Luke Campbell.

The 24-year-old secured his place in history at the London games this summer by becoming the first bantamweight to win Olympic gold for Great Britain in more than a century in a thrilling contest.

Hull Council’s sports development team has now set up the new group to share good practice and create more boxing opportunities for people wanting to take part in the sport, including children, young people and women.

“We want this to be a positive and practical group for people who are involved in boxing, or for those who are hoping to be.

“This group will help us join up brilliant existing expertise and resources we have in Hull to offer the best and strongest range of boxing we can.”
