Supporter 'baffled' by match ban

ONE of Sheffield Wednesday's best-known supporters says he has been left "confused and baffled" after being banned from last night's pre-season friendly match by Barnsley FC.

Paul Gregory, known as "Tango Man", is famous for taking his shirt off at games and starting football chants.

The 47-year-old has had a season ticket at Hillsborough since 1979 and attends every game, despite living in Wolverhampton.

He said: "I've never been in any trouble with police at games and get on really well with all stewards.

"To be told just days before the match, after I booked half a day off work and paid for the ticket, is devastating."

John Gath, chairman of the Wednesdayite supporters' club, said that Mr Gregory is "completely harmless" and added: "It's a bit disappointing to see this kind of action for a friendly."

Barnsley FC's general manager, Don Rowing, said: "He takes his shirt off, which is not something we condone, and also encourages other supporters to misbehave.

"We don't want other people who have paid good money to see the game subjected to that."
