Suspected illegal immigrants found in lorry

Seventeen suspected illegal immigrants, including children, were found in a lorry yesterday suffering from exhaustion and dehydration, police said.

The men and boys, aged between 16 and 35, were discovered in the back of the articulated lorry at the Port of Dover, Kent Police said.

Police and border officials were alerted after banging was heard coming from the lorry, which was then stopped.

Paramedics were called to treat the detainees before they were taken for questioning by officers from the UK Border Agency.

One of the men, who was in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Polish driver was arrested and was being questioned by police.
