Swimmers and city in synch for Olympics camp

SYNCHRONISED swimmers rpresenting Canada in the London Olympics will travel to Yorkshire for a pre-Games training camp, it was announced yesterday.

The team will train at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge pool and its chief executive said she and the swimmers had been attract to the “great city with great people”.

Catherine Gosselin-Depres added: “Our head coach visited during the European Synchronised Swimming Championships, and wanted to come back as it was so fantastic.

“In 2012, we want to be on the podium. It is great that we qualified so early for the Games. Now we can focus on our preparation.”

Sheffield Council described the decision as “another fantastic coup” for the city.

Steve Brailey, chief executive of Sheffield International Venues, which runs Ponds Forge said: “The coaches were extremely impressed during their visit for the European Synchronised Swimming Championships last year and we look forward to welcoming the squad this summer.”
