Take a pew.... city church to bring curtain down on fashion week with catwalk show

A CHURCH is putting its best foot forward for retailers as it becomes the centrepiece for a fashion show.

Hull’s 700-year-old Holy Trinity Church will stage the final parade of Hull Fashion Week on Saturday, May 5, and has opened its doors to some of the models who will be taking part on the day, including 19-year-old Rebbekah Thompson.

Styles that were all the rage when the Queen ascended to the throne in 1952 will be the theme for one of the parades, and there will also be an “up-cycling” demonstration of how to turn old clothes into new bags and aprons.

Two long-established city retailers – Prem and Beasley’s – will showcase their wares.

The week will kick off on Saturday, April 28 with models touring the city in an open-top bus and continues with events organised by city centre department stores and shopping centres, including a fashion show at Princes Quay and a focus on health and beauty at the Prospect Centre.

It will be the second year Fashion Week, run by Hull Business Improvement District, has come to Holy Trinity.

Vicar the Rev Dr Neal Barnes said: “We were thrilled last year by the colour and vibrancy of the event and by the number of people it attracted into the Old Town and the church.”
