Tasty treat for the town

Pontefract's famous Liquorice Festival showed it had lost nothing of its sweetness as it served up amazing entertainment – including these stilt entertainers dressed as large birds making their way through the crowds – when it returned for its 15th year yesterday.

Wakefield Council hosted the event with many acts appearing alongside the liquorice treats. Circus duo the Rapide Brothers clowned around on sky high stilts and unicycles, as fearless fire eaters delighted the audience.

Sweet sounds came from jazz four piece Greggi G and his Crazy Gang, playing classic rock and roll and swinging 50s music. British confectionery manufacturer Tangerine Confectionery, which makes liquorice Pontefract Cakes, was the main sponsor of the 2010 festival.
