Teacher faces jail for sex with pupil, 15

A drama teacher who had sex with a 15-year-old pupil on a school trip is facing a "substantial" jail term after a jury yesterday found him guilty of affairs with two other teenage girls.

Grimsby Crown Court heard that during the sexual relationships with the three girls Karl Babiczuk-Brown was living with his future wife.

The prosecution said the 29-year-old was flattered by the attention of the teenagers and could not resist taking advantage of their crushes.

Babiczuk-Brown, from Louth, Lincolnshire, admitted nine charges of sexual activity with a child and causing a child to engage in sexual activity in relation to the four-month sexual affair with the 15-year-old, which took place last summer.

After the affair came to light he was sacked from his job at Havelock Academy, in Grimsby.

He initially lied to the police but later admitted it saying "I was ashamed of what I had done."

He denied having sexual contact with two other girls who were 14 and 15 at the time and connected with his theatre group.

But the jury found him guilty of eight offences of meeting a child following sexual grooming, sexual activity with a child and causing a child to engage in sexual activity relating to those two girls.

His relationships with the girls were consensual but the prosecution said he abused his position as a teacher.

Babiczuk-Brown invited the teenager in the first case to rehearse lines in April, 2005 when she was 14.

They hugged, kissed and touched and there was consensual sexual activity. He told her: "It'll be our secret."

They met a week later and there was more sexual activity then it stopped.

Babiczuk-Brown was remanded in custody and will be sentenced later this summer.
