Teens get their ’beer goggles’ on

Youth workers are to tour the Bradford district in a bid to get young people to think carefully about alcohol misuse.

They are visiting youth clubs and schools in a special exhibition van which is brightly painted with graffiti art.

And young people are driving a pedal go kart around a safety cone track while wearing ‘beer goggles’ to show them how alcohol affects coordination and reaction times.

The teenagers are also being shown a foetal alcohol demonstration to warn them of the affects alcohol has on the unborn child.

Different strengths and measures are being illustrated through an alcohol units game where young people will be asked to measure out imaginary units of beer, wine and spirits.

The exhibition tour is part of Alcohol Awareness Week, a major campaign to reduce alcohol related crime and harm across Bradford district which ends on Saturday.

The van is visiting Bradford Bulls and youth centres in Thornton, Ilkley, Scholemoor, Queensbury, Silsden, Buttershaw, Allerton, Goals, Springfield, Laisterdyke, Thackley, Idle, Beckside Road, Highcroft, Addingham and Wyke.
