Terror blast ahead of Clinton visit

Two police officers were slightly injured in an explosion in the centre of Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, ahead of a visit by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The blast came a day after security forces battled Islamic militants. Authorities said the explosion took place in the early morning outside the venue of a high-profile corruption trial against top officials of the recently deposed government.

Mrs Clinton is due to travel on Thursday to the country which is home to a US air base used to supply its forces in Afghanistan. The US has been accused of backing corrupt politicians in order to hang on to an important strategic airbase.
