Tesco seeks feedback on new store

RESIDENTS in a Barnsley community are to be given the chance to view proposals for a new Tesco supermarket which is planned for the town centre.

The supermarket giant, in partnership with developer Litton Properties, said its 20,000sq ft food store in Market Street would create 140 jobs.

A two-day public exhibition is being held at St Andrew's Church Hall, Market Street, to allow people to share their views on the development.

Representatives from Tesco and Litton Properties will be available to discuss the plans on Wednesday, January 19 between 3pm and 7pm, and Thursday, January 20 from 2pm to 6pm.

Tesco spokesman Matthew Magee said: "Along with creating 140 new jobs the store would also allow local people to stay in Hoyland to do their shopping.

"We are very keen to hear from people how we can improve the plans to achieve the best scheme for Hoyland, before the application is submitted to the council."

Mark Rothery, of Litton Properties, said: "We see these proposals as an important first step for wider regeneration. Bringing a national retailer to the town will be a catalyst for further investment."
