The car's the star as Skipton gets in gear for annual show

Enthusiasts from across the region turned out for the second Skipton Car Show, which featured more than 180 spectacular cars and 40 motorbikes.

The free event, now in its second year, was the brainchild of self-confessed “petrol head” Jason Smith.

He wanted to add an event to the town’s calendar that could be enjoyed by residents and
tourists alike and generate
extra footfall to help local businesses.

Compered by Alex Riley, the show is run in association with Skipton Town Council and Skipton Town Partnership.

Among those showing cars were Chris and Pat Bryant who drove over from Keighley in their Citroen 2CV Dolly.

Another exhibitor was Andrew Bosomworth, from Burley-in-Wharefdale, whose 1966 Dodge Coronet was gleaming in the afternoon sunshine.

The show also includes a charity auction, with this year’s proceeds to be given to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Not wanting to miss out on the action, the charity sent along its specially customised yellow Mercedes complete with rotor blades on the roof and helicopter tail to the rear.

North Yorkshire Fire Service also demonstrated a car rescue for visitors to the show.
