‘Think again’ call over bus stop yards from kitchen window

Elizabeth Neave, 39, of Lime Tree Square, Shipley, Bradford, says the plans by the West Yorkshire Transport body are intrusive for her and other residents and will alter the aspect of the cul-de-sac where she has lived for the past 12 years.

She said the scheme will mean a bus service operating in the area twice an hour six days a week.

She is also concerned that buses will be parked outside her home during the day when drivers use up “catch-up” time and switch their engines off.

She said: “Nobody wants it; only two people have supported it. There will be signage everywhere and I really don’t want this outside my house.”

Bradford councillor Kevin Warnes, who represents the Shipley ward, told her: “Unfortunately, as I mentioned, Metro were determined to press ahead with this decision despite our concerns about the location of the bus stop, although we welcome the resumption of the service as far as other residents on Hirst Wood Rd are concerned.

“I think it is poor policy-making when a consultation is held and a decision then made that cuts against the grain of the results of the consultation – something that I pointed out to Metro.”

A Metro spokeswoman said: “Following representations from local residents Metro agreed to reinstate a day-time service to Hirst Wood. Lime Tree Square was identified a suitable location for the once-an-hour service to turn and stop, and an independent risk assessment confirmed this to be the safest option.”
