Third time lucky for private school’s nursery proposals

Mylnhurst School in Button Hill, Millhouses, first applied to demolish the existing pre-fabricated nursery building and create a new nursery elsewhere on the site. A games area would then be built on the site of the nursery.

However, these plans proved so unpopular that amended proposals were then submitted to Sheffield Council, which involved building the new nursery on the site of the pre-fab.

Sheffield Council’s conservation advisory group then said that “further improvements” were needed to the plans and, as a result, a third set of plans have now been submitted.

Thse have been recommended for approval at a meeting of Sheffield Council’s planning committee next Monday, January 16.

The current proposals have also proved popular, with 54 letters of support and just 13 letters of objection.

In their report which is set to go before Monday’s meeting, city planners say the new nursery is “considered to be acceptable in terms of design, scale and massing” and is a “significant” improvement on the current pre-fab.

Meanwhile, a planning inspector has allowed an appeal from KFC to build a new drive-through restaurant near Canklow Woods Primary School in Rotherham.

Rotherham Council had originally refused planning permission for the restaurant, which will be 43 yards from the school entrance.
