Three arrested after woman, 83, injured while ‘unattended’ in care

THREE women have been arrested after an elderly woman was injured in a care home.

An incident at the privately-run Windsor Court Care Home in Goole occurred earlier this month but was not brought to police attention until last week when a complaint of neglect was made.

The three women were arrested last Wednesday and have since been released on bail until February.

The alleged victim, who is aged 83, is still being treated in hospital, although it is not clear what the nature of her injuries are.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “Police are investigating after an elderly woman was admitted to hospital following an incident at Windsor Court Care Home in Goole.

“Three women have been arrested as part of the investigation and have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

“The elderly woman who was injured remains in hospital at this time.”

The home, in Bartholomew Avenue, is owned by HC-One, which specialises in dementia, nursing and residential care and has homes throughout the UK.

The company said in a statement: “First and foremost we are outraged at what is alleged to have happened. We are deeply distressed and saddened by this situation as nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and wellbeing of those we care for and support.

“Our thoughts are, of course, with the resident and her family.

“We can confirm that the three members of staff allegedly involved were suspended as soon as we were aware of the incident, were arrested and have been released on bail.

“This relates to an incident wherein a resident is alleged to have been left unattended. The matter now rests with the CPS.”

It added: “We have and will continue to work as closely as possible with the police and all relevant authorities involved in this investigation.”
