Three-hour delays as broken-down train causes chaos

LONG-DISTANCE commuters were hit by three-hour rail delays today, caused by a broken-down train on the east coast main line.

East Coast services from Yorkshire to London were delayed in some cases for 190 minutes.

Network Rail said the stricken train had been moved but that delays would continue until further notice.

A statement on its website said: “There is no current estimate for when a normal service will resume.”

Trains between Halifax and Hebden Bridge are also being delayed by up to 30 minutes because of “safety checks of the line”.
