Three killed in crashes on motorways

THREE people lost their lives in accidents on motorways in West Yorkshire in the space of less than 12 hours.

A 26-year-old man and a woman aged 24 died in a crash on the southbound exit slip road of the M1 at junction 38, near West Bretton, on Sunday at about 8.50pm after a car left the road and hit a tree. The male driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

At about 4.35am yesterday, a man died after his HGV crossed the central reservation of the M62 close to junction 31 near Castleford.

The crash caused long delays and lane closures were expected to continue into the night.
