The thrush hour

Seemingly oblivious to the constant roar of traffic, a mistle thrush has been spotted nesting on a traffic light in Doncaster. The bird has been seen on the shade above the amber light of a pelican crossing outside the Minster Church of St George on Church Way, one of the town's busiest roads.

In April last year, another thrush and its young family were spotted in lights in Leeds city centre and, in January 2009, birds were seen nesting on lights in Lady Lane, Leeds.

It is thought that the warmth given off from the lights keeps the chicks snug, while the extra light gives the parents more time in which to feed them.
