Tide turns for maritime festival

A COUNCIL is pushing the boat out for a new maritime festival.

Hull Council is spending £20,000 on the event - just a year after it was nearly sunk through cutbacks.

Hull Folk and Maritime Festival aims to offer a more eclectic mix of folk and world music, with a line up including folk icons Ralph McTell and Michael Chapman who will be appearing at Holy Trinity Church, as well as sea shanties, at the two-day festival around Hull Marina, from Friday August 17.

Council leader Steve Brady said: “It is another great opportunity for the people of Hull to enjoy a cultural event which will also draw in tourism to the city and bring custom to local businesses.”
