Time running out to have a say on future of Peak District

PEOPLE living in the Peak District national park are being asked their views on how to shape the area over the next five years and beyond.

The Peak District National Park Authority began the Join Our Conversation consultation on a draft new national park management plan in April and has received more than 80 responses already.

However, the authority says it is keen to hear from more people before the deadline on Friday, July 1.

The plan will be the main policy document that guides what will happen in the national park between 2012 and 2017.

Peak District National Park Authority chief executive Jim Dixon said: “We are pleased with the response we have had to the survey so far but want to make sure that everyone who wants to has the opportunity to respond before July 1.

“The national park management plan is not an authority plan. It is designed to bring together all the people, businesses, charities and organisations that live, work or operate in the national park and get agreement on how we will all work together to make the area an even better place to live in, work in and visit.”

The consultation document can be seen in Peak District visitors’ centres and on the Peak District National Park Authority website.
