Toads hop into an exhibition

THE creative process that inspired one of Hull’s most successful public art projects is the subject of a new exhibition in the city.

Toads Adorned and Adored, at Artlink, in Princes Avenue, features many of the paintings, designs and photographs that were used as the basis for Larkin With Toads, which saw 40 giant fibreglass toads installed across Hull as part of a series of events to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of poet Philip Larkin. Some of the more eye-catching pieces include Toada-Lisa, a large jigsaw depicting a toad in Mona Lisa pose, being admired by Artlink gallery development worker Cara Sutherland; the original painting by Mark Wigan that evolved into the Global Pop Toad; and photographs by Dennis Low, which show the toads in varying stages of creation. The exhibition is free and runs until February 19.
