Top-class line-up for revived festival

AROUND 10,000 music fans are expected in South Yorkshire next month for a festival which has been resurrected after an eight-year hiatus.

The “Shindig” festival will be held in Silkstone, near Barnsley, from Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12.

The line-up includes indie band “Athlete”, “The Rifles”, and an acoustic set from former members of 90s act Ocean Colour Scene. Organiser Jim Garside said: “We have more than 15 bands and artists performing an eclectic mix of indie, rock, folk and roots over a three-day programme set in an idyllic woodland setting.

“We’ve not run the festival since 2004 due to work commitments elsewhere but we are back due to popular demand and we’re very pleased with the quality line-up we have managed to attract this year.

“Ticket sales are going well and we’ve got people coming from all over the country.”

The Shindig Festival was staged on the Penistone Showground eight years ago, but it has moved to the large events ground owned by Barnsley Scouts at Silverwood.
