Top figure skaters return to city

The British figure skating championships have been held in Sheffield for four years running, with this year’s event including GB performance team members Peter Hallam, Katie Powell, Jason Thompson and Daniel King.

General manager of IceSheffield Mandy Parker was delighted the venue was again chosen for the competition.

“The British Championship is the National Ice Skating Association’s flagship event and always a fantastic occasion.

“It is an opportunity to see the country’s very best figure skaters, including many Olympians, as well as support the young Sheffield skaters,” she said.

The competition begins today and will conclude on Sunday. Two junior dance couples will also appear to compete for a place in the Youth Olympics.

Last year’s winners included Winter Olympians Jenna McCorkell, Stacey Kemp and David King.
