Top singer coup for resort

Singer Katherine Jenkins has announced she will be the latest big-name act to appear in Scarborough this summer in another boost to the Yorkshire coast’s tourism industry.

The award-winning singer, who has sold more than seven million albums, will perform at Scarborough Open Air Theatre on August 3 for a Last Night of the Proms concert. Tourism chiefs have welcomed the venue’s latest coup after Scarborough Borough Council had to step in last year at the last minute to secure major artists for the 2012 summer programme.

Performances this year include Happy Mondays on June 22, The Wanted on June 14, Leona Lewis on July 12, Status Quo on July 27 and McFly on August 30.

The first batch of tickets for the Last Night of the Proms concert go on sale at 9am on Sunday from the Sands offices at Peasholm Gap.
