Tourism on agenda for Wolds businesses

DELEGATES will gather for the start of the first Wolds Business Week on Monday, with jobs, training opportunities and plans to boost nature tourism on the agenda.

The programme begins with a business breakfast at Bridlington Spa, a networking event when town centre retailing and crime fighting initiatives will be discussed and the action plan for Bridlington town centre will be on show.

The same venue will host Careers 4U on Tuesday, when information and guidance will be shared on how to boost the prospects of school leavers and the emerging workforce.

Plans to cash in on the region’s opportunities in nature tourism - one of the visitor economy’s fastest growing markets - will be the focus of the Great Outdoors event at Sewerby Hall on Wednesday.

Nature tourism was estimated last year to be growing globally by 20 per cent a year.

Exhibitors from Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Sewerby Hall and Gardens, the RSPB, the Local Food Network, East Riding Council business services, Golf Break, and local tourism representatives will explain how to attract new visitors and encourage people to stay longer.

Businesses in Bridlington in particular are being encouraged to help make the resort a centre for country breaks.

East Riding Council’s business centres will have open days on October 13, when new and small enterprises can find out more about the help and support available to them, including premises to rent at competitive rates.

The week concludes on Friday with the annual Chamber Wolds Business Awards at the Spa.

Bridlington Renaissance programme manager Liz Philpot said: “We want to make sure businesses have the chance to find out what more will be out there, things on offer to help them and support them, and make the most of the business opportunities that might be out there.”
