Town set to be illuminated during Festival of Light

Huddersfield will come alive this weekend as the Festival of Light - three nights of colourful entertainment - comes to the town centre.

Organised by Kirklees Council, the festival is entirely free and audiences will be to enjoy the events and attractions spread across the town centre tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

Those taking part include Grupo Puja, who will be performing their aerial acrobatics in a cosmic themed show, French contemporary dance group Retouramont will perform a suspended ballet and light projection performed down the walls of Huddersfield Art Gallery.

People can also take a stroll through the Welcome to Yorkshire Light Garden, at St Peter’s Gardens and a field of 16ft high illuminated tulips by British artists, Jigantics, in front of the Art Gallery.

From dusk each day, street performers and bands will entertain the crowds, with everything from a giant illuminated lobster to plenty of unusual characters and performers.

Adding to the atmosphere, a winter food and drink market will be open throughout the festival and The Art Market, located in the Art Gallery, will offer work for sale.

A number of town centre roads will be closed. For details about the festival and the timing of events visit the website www.huddersfieldlightfest.co.uk
