Town to unveil plaque tribute to comic Harry

A TRIBUTE to comedian Harry Worth is to be unveiled in Barnsley next week, in the form of a blue plaque outside his childhood home.

Best known for the comedy sketch featuring his reflection in a shop window, Worth was working right up until a few months before his death in 1989, at the age of 71.

His old friend, comedian Jimmy Cricket, will unveil the plaque outside 47 Fitzwilliam Street in Hoyland Common, where Worth was born in 1917, on July 20.

A spokesman for the British Comedy Society said: "Harry's flair for showbusiness became evident at a young age when, armed with a magic lantern, he used to put on shows in his shed, charging other children to watch."
