Traders turn to internet in bid to lessen losses

AN online market is being set up to help the Great Yorkshire Show’s traders cushion their losses after the showpiece agricultural event had to be abandoned.

The Countryside Alliance has joined forces with the show’s organisers, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, to give traders the chance to sell products via the internet. More than half of the show’s 700 traders are due to feature on the directory, which is expected to go live today.

The Countryside Alliance’s northern regional director, Simon Hamlyn, said: “We met a lot of traders who were mortified the show had to be cancelled.

“While they understood the decision, many were left with a great deal of stock which they feared would remain unsold.”

The directory will feature food and drink, country clothing, homeware and gardening items. It will be available via the Countryside Alliance’s website at www.countryside-alliance.org.uk
