Traffic alert: A1 closed after crash brings down power cables
THE A1 in North Yorkshire was closed in both directions this afternoon after a crash which left power cables lying across the road.
Police said a single vehicle hit a pole at the side of the northbound carriageway near Brompton-on-Swale, which left it leaning across the road and power cables draped over both carriageways and the central barrier.
The road was closed both ways at Scotch Corner and the turn-off to Catterick Garrison with diversions in place. It reopened at 2.30pm.
Witnesses to the crash, which left the driver injured, are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
