Trains and refrains

Composer Benjamin Till faced the music yesterday as Pickering Station became a platform for one of the first public rehearsals of part of his Symphony for Yorkshire.

As well as writing the new anthem, the musician is also involved in putting together a series of film clips, featuring some of the region's best known sights, for a video to illustrate the work.

Besides recruiting musicians, acrobats, magicians, dancers, and other performers, he is also on the lookout for attractive locations such as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Yesterday York University graduate Mr Till put musicians, left to right, Emily Taylor, Rachel Wilkinson and Eleanor Walker, through their paces for several hours at the station.
