Driver, 21, dead after crash in Sheffield

A MAN died this morning following a crash involving a car and two taxis on Barnsley Road in Sheffield.

Police were called just after 3.30am following reports that three vehicles had collided close to the junction of Barnsley Road and Herries Road.

The 21-year-old driver of a black Skoda Fabia, which was travelling away from the city centre, was taken to Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where he died a short time later.

Two other vehicles, a black Hackney carriage taxi and a white Toyota Auris private hire car, that were both travelling in the opposite direction, were struck in the collision.

A 51-year-old man who was a passenger in the Toyota Auris suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed for around eight hours while the scene was examined, vehicles recovered and the road surface cleaned.
