Five people rescued from house blaze

Five people rescued from a house blaze in Hull were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

A ladder was used to rescue three people who were trapped upstairs in the terraced house on Gloucester Street, off Hessle Road, in the early hours of yesterday. Two others, also in their 20s, who had tried to rescue the others, were led outside by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

Firefighters found the house heavily smoke-logged from a smouldering fire which had started in the living room.

Area manager Phil Jackson said: “The crews did a great job in quickly rescuing all five people from within the property and getting them to safety.”
