Hello, 999? Your fire station’s on fire

FIREFIGHTERS had to be alerted by a member of the public early this morning that their fire station was ablaze.

The fire at the Epworth station near Doncaster has put the town’s fire engine out of commission “the foreseeable future”.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service control operators received a call from a member of the public at 1.49am alerting them to the fire.

Three fire engines from other stations attended the incident, along with firefighters from Epworth who had been made aware of the incident.

Group Manager Mark Toplass said: “The crews did a fantastic job and the fire was put out very quickly.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now under way.
