Huddersfield girl killed in crash as she celebrates 16th birthday

A teenager from Huddersfield who was celebrating her 16th birthday has died in a car crash on holiday in Scotland.

Caitlin Thaxter attended Brighouse High School and had been celebrating her birthday with friends the day before she died.

She was a passenger in a car which lost control while negotiating a left-hand bend a few miles east of Inveraray, near Dunderave Castle, on Saturday morning.

The vehicle, a silver Toyota RAV4, left the road and crashed into a tree.

Caitlin died on the scene.

The 45-year-old woman driving the car and a teenage girl in the back seat, were taken to MidArgyll Hospital in Lochgilphead for treatment.

The road was closed for eight hours as an investigation was carried out into the crash.
