Leeds teenager killed in crash with lorry

A teenage driver from Leeds has been killed in a head-on crash with a lorry.

The 19-year-old, who has not yet been named, was in a Renault Clio that was involved in a collision with a white, Bulgarian-registered HGV near Fairburn on Saturday.

The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on the A1246 between Fairburn and the junction with the A63 near the Selby Fork Hotel at about 2.45pm.

The 19-year-old died at the scene. The 56-year-old Bulgarian lorry driver was taken to Pinderfields hospital with minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, especially the driver of a pale or white car seen in the area at the time of the collision.
