Seven children hurt as school minibus hits lamppost

SEVEN children were hurt when a school minibus crashed into a lamppost in the East Riding.

The vehicle, which was carrying 14 children, hit a lamppost on the A1079 near Arras Hill, near Market Weighton, just before 3pm on Thursday.

Eight children suffered injuries including cuts and bruises and seven were taken to York District Hospital for treatment. No other vehicle was involved.

Humberside Police said in a statement: “Humberside Police attended a minibus road traffic collision near the Arras Hill roundabout on the A1079, Market Weighton, at 2.56pm on Thursday, March 24. The silver-coloured minibus carrying school children was in a collision with a lamppost.

“A number of people sustained minor cuts and bruises with eight people sustaining non-serious injuries.”
