Skin graft for Sheffield boy, 6, injured on seaside ghost train

He was knocked unconscious in the incident and an investigation into what happened is under way.

His father David Russon had to lift the car off his stricken son as he lay on the tracks.

He rushed into the ride from where he was waiting for his son outside when he realised something had gone wrong.

Thomas has undergone a skin graft and may need further surgery next week.

His dad said: “It was shocking and terrifying seeing him stuck under the car and lying there unconscious.

“Our focus now is on making sure he gets the best possible treatment so that he is back on his feet as soon as possible.

“We don’t yet know exactly what happened and it is vital that there is an urgent investigation so that any issues with the ride or the safety shut off mechanisms can be identified to prevent any other children also getting injured. We don’t want anyone else to suffer as Thomas has.

“We ask that people now respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Thomas needed a skin graft after suffering severe burns on his abdomen.

He also suffered extensive bruising.

The youngster was flown by air ambulance from the fairground to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating.
