Travellers label city dangerous and ugly

Bradford is the city visitors least want to visit as it is deemed "dangerous, ugly and boring", it was revealed today.

Another Yorkshire city – Wakefield – was considered the next least-attractive place for visitors as it was "dull and depressing", a poll of 5,000 people conducted by hotel company Travelodge has discovered.

But York was among the top five cities appealing to visitors after London, together with Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester.

But a Travelodge spokeswoman said: "We live in a world of misconceptions, and often don't realise it. A significant proportion of the images of cities we have in our minds may be biased, out of date and not in tune with reality."

Other locations high on the list were Dundee, because of the bad weather there, Sunderland, which apparently has nothing to offer with dislikeable local accents, and Newport in South Wales, which was seen as having a high crime rate.

Yorkshire had another entry in the among the list of other unappealing other towns and cities – Ripon. The others were St David's in Wales, Wells in Somerset, Ely in Cambridgeshire and Lichfield in Staffordshire.

London led the list of the most-visited cities as well being the city most Britons were planning to visit this year.
