Treasure House trail gets children in the mood for Puppet Festival

A children's trail in Beverley is going hand in glove with the town's annual puppet festival.

The Treasure House will be opening especially on Sunday, July 18, to welcome families who may already be in town for the fourth annual Puppet Festival.

The trail features 17 colourful puppets from the collection of Puppet Festival director Anna Ingleby.

They include Czech puppets used by families to liven up evenings at home in the 1950s and 1960s and rod puppets, which still prove a crowd-pleaser in Indonesia.

Curator Sally Hayes said: "We are delighted with the response the trail has received so far. Parents and grandparents are enjoying it as much as the children...It also makes a great addition to the Puppet Festival fare."

On Friday, children who've been taking part in workshops at Longcroft School will be presenting a showcase of their work at 1pm, before walking through town to the Treasure House with the puppets they've made. They will be met by the town's Mayor Bessie Foot.
