Tribute to bee stings victim

The mother of a man killed after he was stung by his colony of bees paid tribute to him yesterday as a "lovely man".

Christopher Weaver, from Coalville, Leicester, died after he was stung repeatedly by the bees earlier this month.

The 56-year-old was feeding his colony without his protective suit on when he collapsed suddenly on April 10. Despite efforts by medics he died in hospital on April 12, his mother said today.

Monica Weaver, 80, from Plymouth, said: "He was a lovely man.

"He was just Chris, there's no other way you can put it.

"He was my son and I can be biased but he was cheerful, always helping people, sometimes getting in trouble with his mother for it, but he was lovely.

"He was a lovely man and it never should have happened to him."

She said Christopher had not met his father, who was serving in the navy at the time, until he was 17 months old, so she and him had shared a special "bond". She said: "Everybody loved him."
