Det Con Dunn, who is from Bradford, joined West Yorkshire Police at Calderdale in January 2004 and was working in CID.

He also had roles as an acting sergeant in Halifax North and East Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Divisional commander for Calderdale, Chief Supt Alan Ford, said: "Matt was highly respected, well known and loved as a result of his professionalism and his skills as a rugby player, for which he was a member of Great Britain Police rugby team.

"The division is in regular contact with members of the party in Lanzarote and is sending a family-liaison officer and translator to the island to support the families and provide what assistance they can.

"We are also liaising through the Serious Organised Crime Agency with the local police in terms of the investigation into the incident."
