Tributes
to groom who died
in crash

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a bridegroom who died in a horrific crash.

Phillip John Cleary, 34, died after his motorbike was hit by two cars on an East Yorkshire road just two days after marrying his partner Gemma.

Police believe he lost control of his motorbike, colliding with one car, before hitting another on the A164, between Howden and Market Weighton, on Monday evening.

Yesterday nearly 1,300 people had paid tributes on a Facebook page called In Memory of Phill Cleary, including Mrs Cleary, who thanked people for their memories and posts and said she wasn’t surprised by the many tributes to a man who was “the most amazing, funny, sweetest guy I’ve ever known”.

Earlier she wrote: “My gorgeous husband. My best friend, my strength and soulmate...My prince. Time was far too short but how lucky am I.

“I have your heart and soul with me forever and I’m so proud to be your wife. You made my fairy tale come true.”

Sister Donna added: “I’m missing you so much big brother, I miss your laugh and smile. What are we going to do without you? You have been taken from us all so cruelly, just hope where you have gone is to a happy place, and I’m sure you will be lighting up the skies as you lit up everywhere you went.”

A friend Nina Hill wrote: “You were a true diamond who made lots of people’s lives amusing due to your wicked sense of humour. You will be so sorely missed.” And another friend Richard Giles posted: “I will never forget your trembling bottom lip when you saw Gemma walking down the aisle.”

The Hull and Lincoln universities graduate, from Rosewoods, Howden, was managing partner of The Citadel Partnership LLP, a health and safety consultancy for the construction industry. Police are supporting Mrs Cleary and have assigned a family liaison support officer to her. They continue to appeal for witnesses to the crash.
