Trip helps addicts with recovery

Five people who attend the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) substance misuse service New Beginnings have been accompanied by staff on a camping trip to build up their skills and relationships with each other. The one-night outing gave them the opportunity to try their hand at various adventurous activities in Derbyshire including caving, abseiling and climbing, in addition to orienteering and other outdoor skills. New Beginnings is a structured day programme and inpatient detox that works on a therapeutic level using group work, one-to-one work with clients and a range of life skills. New Beginnings works in collaboration with other services in Doncaster to help people end their dependence on substances.

Home birth advice hailed

A Bradford maternity team is celebrating after scooping yet another prize for their award-winning Homebirth Workshop for pregnant women throughout the district.The midwives collected their certificate from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Maternity (APPGM) after being highly commended at their annual awards as a shining example of including patients in the development and delivery of maternity services.The APPGM, which is serviced by the National Childbirth Trust, is a cross-party group whose aim is to highlight maternity issues within Parliament and bring together health professionals and service users with politicians. Consultant midwife, Alison Brown, said: “We are delighted that our work has been recognised by the APPGM and to receive yet another award for our homebirth workshops is just brilliant.This accolade reflects the commitment of local women and their partners, who after having given birth at home, are happy to share their experiences so that others can learn from their amazing stories.

Puppies on patrol at city airport

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) opened its doors to help the Guide Dogs for the Blind training process for new puppy recruits.

The Guide Dog puppies were given special access to the airport in order to familiarise themselves with normal day-to-day activities in a busy environment. The puppies had a special guided tour of the terminal which included a visit to the check-in and security area, the departure lounge, boarding gates and baggage reclaim area.
