Troops mark return from Afghanistan

SOLDIERS from the Yorkshire Regiment will mark their homecoming from Afghanistan with a series of parades.

The soldiers of the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment will hold a minute’s silence at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate today at 1pm followed by parades tomorrow with a salute close to the Market Cross in Beverley at 11am and near the dais close to the spa building in Bridlington at 3pm.

On Thursday they will march in Bradford to Centenary Square at 11.30am ahead of taking the salute on the steps of the Civic Hall in Leeds at 2.30pm. They will be in York on Friday for a Thanksgiving Service at the city’s Minster at 10.30am ahead of a salute at the Mansion House at 11.45am.

The soldiers, who have been on a six-month tour in Helmand province, will be in Hull on Saturday where the salute will be taken at the dais next to the Amy Johnson statue at noon.
